How can I secure my account in Walt

Since your account is accessed via your Telegram account, we recommend setting two-step verification to login and passcode to access chats.

We also recommend terminating all your active Telegram sessions on other devices, especially if it is on a device that you do not control at the moment. For this, you can enable an automated termination of old sessions. All this can be done in the Telegram settings in the Privacy and Security section.

Now, you can turn on the passcode for your Walt, as a way to enhance the security of your account.

Passcode in Walt

What is a Walt passcode, and how does it work

A Walt passcode is a 4 or 6-digit code that you create yourselves. You can set it up to enhance the security of your account. Walt will ask for the passcode during withdrawals or Sell Crypto operations on P2P Market.

In case anyone gets access to your Telegram account and tries to withdraw the funds from Walt, the passcode in place will prevent it from the withdrawal attempt.

How to set up a passcode in Walt

You can turn on the passcode in Settings. To do this, press at the three dots in the upper right corner.

You will be asked to enter an e-mail address for passcode setup. This address is needed for passcode reset in case you forgot it.

Please note: your Walt passcode should not be the same as your Telegram account passcode, nor should it be as your 2-step verification code. This is essential for the security of your assets.

Is it necessary to turn on the passcode

For certain actions in Walt, a passcode may be required — this is an important security measure. To avoid transaction restrictions, it is recommended to set it up in advance.

I entered the wrong passcode by mistake

You have 5 attempts to enter your passcode. If you enter the passcode incorrectly 5 times in a row, you will see a message offering to send a recovery code to your linked email address. After you confirm, we will send the code to your email.

Important: We do not send recovery codes without your consent — the email is sent only after your confirmation. If you receive a recovery code email without having requested one, please contact our support team immediately.

What is biometric authentication

This is an alternative way to protect your Walt. Biometric authentication helps authorize actions in Walt via Face ID (on iOS devices) or Touch ID (on Android devices) without using the passcode. Thus, to set it up, you need to turn on the passcode first.

You can turn on biometrics in the corresponding section of Walt settings.

Can I use both passcode and biometrics at the same time

Yes, you can. If Biometrics are enabled, you will use this feature instead of passcode in most cases. At the same time, passcode remains as a way of authentication when you face issues with your biometrics check. Also, important to note that you will need to enter the passcode before you can enable biometrics separately in your Walt settings

Why am I getting an error when I try enabling biometrics for Walt

You have probably restricted biometrics permissions to Telegram. To turn on biometrics in Walt, you need to allow Telegram to access your biometrics, and then to try binding it again.

I turned on biometrics on one device, but I'm using Walt from another one. What happens with biometrics in this case

If you log in to Walt from a new device, you will need to enable biometrics on it once more. To do this, you need to input your passcode once again.

Unlike biometrics, your passcode is a multi-device instrument and can be used across various devices.

Where are biometrics stored

Your biometrics are stored only on your device.

I forgot my passcode. How to restore it

To restore the passcode, click on "forgot your passcode" button. We will send you a code to the e-mail that you connected earlier. Enter this code to reset the old passcode.

If needed, you can change or turn off the passcode at any time via Settings

How to change the connected e-mail in Walt

In Passcode settings tab, choose the "Change Recovery E-mail" option. It is possible to change only if you have access to previously connected e-mail. This is because you will receive a code to your e-mail, to authorize the data change.

I forgot my passcode and lost access to my e-mail. What to do

It is important that you connect only the e-mail address to which you have access. So firstly, try restoring access to the connected e-mail.

In case the attempts are unsuccessful, and you passed identity verification in Walt earlier, you can contact our customer support. We will try our best to help you.

Can I use my DeFi Account e-mail

Yes, you can use the same e-mail both for the passcode and recovering DeFi Account. That said, we recommend you using separate e-mail addresses for enhanced security.

If I change my e-mail for passcode, will my e-mail for recovering DeFi Account change

No, your recovery email for DeFi Account will not change. The passcode and email recovery are separate functions.

Walt and access to Telegram

I want to change my Telegram phone number or username. Will this affect my access to Walt

Your Walt is linked to your Telegram account through a unique Telegram user ID, so changing your phone number or username does not affect your ability to access your account in Walt.

I want to delete my Telegram account. What will happen to my Walt

Walt is connected to your Telegram account via a unique Telegram user ID. After deleting your Telegram account, you will lose access to your existing account in Walt, and launching Walt with a new Telegram account will create a new account on the platform.

Before deleting your Telegram account, transfer all your cryptocurrency from Walt to another address, for example, to DeFi Account.

Before transferring crypto to DeFi Account, make sure you have saved your Secret Recovery Phrase. Learn more about how to do it here.

If you have already deleted your Telegram account but want to recover access to your previous Walt, you can learn how to do this here.

I lost access to my Telegram account and can't log in to my Walt

If you lose access to your Telegram account, you will also lose access to the Walt account created with that Telegram profile.

In case you still have funds in your Walt linked to your previous Telegram account and need to access them:

  1. Try to restore access to your Telegram account.
  2. If you are not able to restore the account, create a new Telegram account.
  3. Open Walt in your new account and complete verification there.
  • If your previous Walt was verified, the system will notify you in the process. You will be able to set your new account as the main one.
  • If you did not complete verification before, simply do it now.
  1. After verification, contact our support team and explain that you lost access to your previous Walt account. Our team will confirm the necessary details and try to help transfer your balance from the old Walt to the new one.

Important:

  • We cannot always guarantee the ability to regain access to a lost Walt account.
  • The Walt support team cannot restore access to one's Telegram account itself. We can only help transfer funds from your old Walt to your new one.
  • For issues related to restoring your Telegram account, we recommend contacting Telegram support.
  • If you cannot access Telegram at all and need to contact Walt support, email us at support@walt.io . Please use this channel only if Telegram is completely unavailable to you. It is faster and safer to reach out via our support bot in Telegram, as we can immediately confirm that the request came from you.

How can I protect my Telegram account from loss?

  • Make sure your Telegram account is linked to a reliable phone number that you have access to. By default, Telegram sends login codes via SMS. However, if you have another active Telegram session on a secondary device (such as your PC or a tablet), the login codes are instead delivered to this active device. Staying logged in to Telegram on your other devices can help ensure you receive login codes even if there are temporary issues with your SMS delivery.
  • Enable Two-Step Verification in the 'Privacy and Security' section of your Telegram Settings. This will help prevent your account from unauthorized access or unintentional deletion. Make sure to set a recovery email as well, in case you ever forget the password.
  • Follow the security recommendations from our article.
  • Complete verification in your Walt. This will help you quickly and easily recover access to your funds if your Telegram account becomes unavailable.
